Grocery Shopping

Main Grocery Stores in Aruba:
Superfoods | Ling & Sons | CMART | Pricesmart

Here are four of the larger grocery stores in Aruba—Super Foods, Ling & Sons, Pricesmart, and CMART.  If you’re staying for a longer period or feeding a large group, Pricesmart is a great option.  It’s similar to Costco, but keep in mind it does require an annual membership ($39 USD).

A couple of other great options are Do It Center Shaba (in Noord) and Save More, which are conveniently located across the street—or, well, around the corner—from each other.  I pop into both occasionally when I only need a few things, but they don’t usually have everything I’m looking for.  That said, Do It Center is kind of like Aruba’s version of Target!  It has food, home goods, tools and clothing—but no shoes.

Since Aruba is a Dutch island, you’ll see lots of Dutch products, which are delicious!  But don’t worry—there’s also plenty of American brands and familiar items.  And honestly, the food in Aruba?  Freaking amazing.  I promise you’ll never be disappointed.

You’ll also find smaller Chinese markets scattered all over the island. They’re great when you just need a few things quickly—and they also sell alcohol at pretty good prices!  My new favorite is Cheng's Market, which is about 2-3 blocks down the road from Superfoods.  They have some great deals and are great for condiments, produce, cut up fresh fruit, meat, etc.

Pro Tip: Plan Ahead on Sundays!

Many stores close early, so make sure to get your shopping done in time:

Super Foods: 6pm

CMART: 3pm

Ling & Sons: 3pm

Pricesmart: 2pm

 What We Buy + Eat

We usually shop at Super Foods, Ling & Son, Pricesmart and Cheng's.  Since we stay in an vacation rental, we love having the option to cook instead of eating out every single meal—it saves money and is super convenient.  Some days, we also make our own lunches and bring them to the beach!

Our go-to lunch setup is super simple: we grab a variety of deli meats (like turkey, ham, and chicken), a few cheeses, bread or buns, mayo and mustard, and some chips.  We’ll either eat lunch by the pool or pack it in the cooler and take it to the beach.

Also—a must-try: the chicken stoba from Super Foods. We make bowls with it, Mexican rice, and some veggies. So good.

Charcuterie Boards & Easy Dinners

We’re big fans of making charcuterie boards for snacks!  All of the bigger grocery stores have a great selection of meats and cheeses.

For dinner, we usually keep it easy with burgers, sloppy joes, some form of chicken, the delicious pre-marinated beef kabobs/chicken kabobs from Super Foods or Ling & Sons, steaks from Wild Fork at Ling & Sons.  We’ll pair that with some potatoes or potato salad.  They even sell single-serving lasagnas that we throw on the top rack of the grill with some garlic bread.  Chef’s kiss.

Superfood Plaza

Superfood Aruba is one of the most popular grocery stores on the island—and for good reason.  They’ve got just about everything you’ll need during your stay, and they even offer delivery through the Superfoods app, making it super convenient if you don’t want to leave your private rental or hotel.

If you plan to shop in-store, don’t forget to bring a quarter for a shopping cart—it works like Aldi back in the States.  Heads up: a florin won’t work in the newer carts.  You can also grab a cart token from the customer service desk just inside the main door for just $0.29.

Pro Tip:

While you’re checking out, snag one of the large, reusable Aruba-branded bags at the register. They’re sturdy, inexpensive ($1–$4), and make a perfect beach bag or souvenir to take home!

You’ll notice Cheers Wines & Liquors is located inside Superfoods but operates separately.  Most of the good wines and cold beer are sold there, and you’ll pay separately.  It’s located inside the store, just past Jack's Cafe on your right before you enter the grocery shopping part through the turnstiles.  I usually hit Cheers after I’ve finished my food shopping—I park my cart outside in the cart parking spot, grab what I need, and then roll out!  Warm beer cases, meanwhile, are located in the main store by the bottled water.

Wondering if you need the Tourist Bonus Card?  Most cashiers will scan their own to give you the discount automatically if your items are on sale, but I've noticed some you have to ask them to do so at Cheers and Bliss, so I would just get your own.  You can get this at the customer service desk inside the main entrance.  This can also be used at Bliss and Cheers for discounts!

Superfoods has great marinated meats too!  I highly recommend the garlic or spicy beef and chicken kebabs at the meat counter—they’re perfect for the grill and packed with flavor.

Pro Tip:

Tip the young men that bag groceries (all stores) and take them to your car!  They are not getting a salary to be there and they are saving for college.

Avoid Saturdays and Sundays if you can—especially Saturday, which is arrival day for many tourists.  The store gets packed, so if you’re after a calmer shopping trip, go early in the morning or on a weekday instead.

Just inside the entrance, on your right, you’ll find Jack’s Café—one of Aruba’s best-kept secrets for affordable, filling food.  They offer pre-cooked breakfast, lunch, and dinner, served hot and ready to eat.  I once got eggs, bacon, and French toast for $6 USD, split it with my boyfriend, and we still couldn’t finish it.  Another day we got four giant slices of French toast for $6.30.  For $11, we scored two full meals with eggs, bacon, hash browns, and massive pastechis.  You can eat in their spacious seating area or take it to go—either way, it’s a steal!

Need beach or personal care items? Just inside to your left, you’ll find Bliss Beauty & Health, where you can pick up sunscreen, makeup, and other essentials.  Outside the store, to the left of the entrance if you're facing the building, there’s BENU Pharmacy Oliva, perfect for things like Tylenol, Band-Aids, and more.

To the right of the entrance outside, you’ll find a warm food takeout window selling croquettes and pastechis —perfect for a quick, tasty snack!  Next to that was Daily Fish, a great local spot for fresh seafood to cook at home, though they’re currently looking for a new location as Superfood is expanding!

And don’t forget to head upstairs at Superfoods!  They’ve got a full floor of home and beach items—snorkel gear, water shoes, pool floats—you name it!

Ling & Sons

IMG_0079.jpg

Ling & Sons is located just five minutes south of Super Foods by car, or two roundabouts down the road.  It’s a fantastic option if you prefer more American food brands—perfect for picky eaters, anyone craving familiar items from home, or if you just want a more peaceful shopping experience.

Be sure to download the FunMiles app ahead of time.  You’ll earn points with every purchase, which can be redeemed at a variety of locations across the island, including gas stations.  They also offer great weekly discounts—20% off produce on Tuesdays and Wild Thursdays with 5–6 specials on meat and fish (check their Facebook page for details). Timeshare owners also get a discount!

Pro Tip: Tip the young men who bag your groceries and bring them to your car.

Ling’s has an excellent selection of meats and seafood, including pre-marinated, grill-ready items that make vacation cooking a breeze. They will even cook fish for you at the seafood counter!

The bakery is a must-visit—the smell alone will draw you in.  They offer a wide variety of fresh-baked breads daily, but the sourdough loaves are the real standout.  Perfect for sandwiches, breakfast toast, or pairing with cheese and wine, the sourdough is crusty on the outside, soft on the inside, and always fresh.  You’ll also find pastries, rolls, and desserts that make it hard to leave without grabbing “just one more thing.”  We love the Carrot cake and the triple chocolate cake!  Yum!

They also have impressive cold and hot food bars.  The cold bar opens early and is packed with salads—my personal favorite is the eggless potato salad with carrots (so tasty, I’m obsessed).  The hot bar is a big hit at lunchtime for locals with great value and generous portions.  Whether you grab food to-go or sit in the seating area near the entrance, it’s a solid meal option.

Ling’s also boasts the largest liquor selection on the island, plus a wide range of cosmetics and personal care essentials like shampoo, conditioner, and soap.

Wild Fork + Ling & Sons

wildFork.JPG

One of the BEST surprises at Ling & Sons has been discovering that they now carry Wild Fork meats.  Wild Fork was one of our absolute favorite spots when we lived in Chicago—it was right next door to my boyfriend’s condo, and we shopped there weekly for their amazing steaks.  When we moved to Arizona, we were so bummed there wasn’t a Wild Fork nearby.

So imagine my excitement when I walked into Ling & Sons one day in early September and spotted our favorite Wild Fork steaks right there in Aruba!  Needless to say, we were pumped.  The quality is exactly what we remember, and the pricing is actually really close to U.S. prices—they didn’t mark it up much at all.

On top of that, the selection is fantastic—from juicy Porterhouse steaks and bacon-wrapped filets to ribs, flank steaks, skirt steaks, seasoned ground beef, and more. It’s a true meat lover’s paradise, and such a treat to have it right here on the island.

PRO TIP:

Grab a Porterhouse steak. One easily feeds two people, making it a fantastic value for the quality you’re getting.

CMART

CMART.JPG

CMART is one of Aruba’s newer grocery stores and definitely worth checking out—especially if you’re looking for a quieter, more relaxed shopping experience.  Located about 7 minutes of the Airport by car, this spot has quickly become a favorite for locals and visitors alike.

Their produce section is absolutely gorgeous, with fresh, colorful fruits and veggies that are hard to resist.  They also offer a fantastic selection of deli meats and cheeses, along with plenty of meat and seafood options, including a wide variety of pre-marinated choices that are perfect for grilling—no extra prep required!

One major perk? You don’t need to shop separately for alcohol like you do at Superfoods. Everything is under one roof here, and I found the alcohol prices to be about the same.

Head upstairs and you’ll find not just home goods and clothing, but also a cozy café that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner at very reasonable prices with a HUGE selection. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or taking your time, it’s a convenient and affordable option right inside the store.

If you’re hoping to avoid the crowds, CMART is a solid choice—I’ve never found it busy, making it a calm and enjoyable place to shop.

PriceSmart

pricesmart.JPG

Pricesmart is conveniently located near the airport, a 4 minute drive, in Oranjestad, making it an easy stop when you arrive.

If you’re staying in Aruba for an extended period or need to stock up for a large group or family at an Airbnb, this place is definitely worth checking out!  It’s very similar to Costco, with many of the same brands you’ll recognize—and yes, even a food court with pizza and hot dogs!

There’s an annual membership fee of $39 USD, but it can easily pay off if you’re planning to shop in bulk.

We like to load up on meats to freeze for longer stays, plus snacks like chips and nuts—and, of course, vodka!  They carry the 1.75L bottle of Kirkland Vodka for around $50 USD, which is a great value compared to the grocery stores.  They even have the basil pesto that Costco carries.  Perfect for pairing with shrimp!

Alcohol is sold in a separate section just beyond the cashiers.  And don’t forget: you’ll need to show your receipt at the exit, just like Costco!

Cheng's Market

chengsmarket.JPG

Just down the street from Super Foods, Cheng’s Market is one of my favorite spots to stock up on essentials at great prices.  I always try to grab as much as I can here first—it’s budget-friendly, convenient, and has a surprisingly wide selection.

You’ll find all your pantry staples like ketchup, mustard, mayo, soy sauce, sweet Thai chili sauce, taco seasoning, spices, and more. Paper products (paper towels, toilet paper, paper plates) are usually less expensive here than at the bigger grocery stores.  Cheng’s also has excellent prices on meats like ground beef and chicken, which makes it a great option if you’re not here long enough for a big PriceSmart haul.

Their fruit selection is excellent, and I especially love grabbing cut-up watermelon and cantaloupe for breakfast—usually only about $2!  They also have delicious fresh breads and buns.  Add in a large selection of sodas, chips, and snacks, plus a solid wine and liquor section (often a few dollars cheaper than the big stores), and you’ve got an easy one-stop shop.

Whether you’re stocking up for the week or just need a few basics, Cheng’s Market is a go-to for both value and variety.
