Hooiberg
Hooiberg, a volcanic formation in Aruba, is often mistaken as the island's highest point at 165 meters above sea level.
However, Jamanota, a hill in Arikok National Park, stands at 189 meters and is the true highest point.
Hooiberg got its name from its resemblance to a haystack and is depicted on the Aruban Coat of Arms, symbolizing the island rising out of the sea.
The stairs were renovated around the end of 2022 and re-opened in March 2023.
Some parts have railings and other parts do not, so be careful. If you fall off the path, you will likely be falling into a Cactus! Ouch!
A gazebo halfway up provides a rest stop with a stunning view of the island and the sea.
Once you get to the top, AMAZING views!!
It took me about 20 mins up and 10 mins down! It was HOT though, and I went around 830am!
You can read more in depth about my experience on my Blog Post!
PRO TIP:
Bring water, wear sunscreen and prepare to sweat!
Getting to the mountain is easy if you are willing to take a few wrong turns along the way. While the main road of Morgenster passes to the south of the peak, the trailhead is actually on the north side of the peak and in the neighborhoods south of Paradera. From the capitol of Oranjestad, take the road towards Santa Cruz (Route 4A) and then make your way through the neighborhoods to the trailhead on the north side of Hooiberg, which luckily is very visible. You may take a wrong turn or two. Park in the dirt and look for the GREEN path to start your journey up!

After you have worked up an appetite, be sure to stop at Bright Bakery or Huchada Bakery for a delicious reward!
